If it’s a headset mic, you actually want it slightly above your lips, but not so close to your nose that you sound like Mr. But for the sake of argument, let’s assume you’re using a plain old USB mic. Depending on how fancy-pants your setup is, the variables only go up even more dramatically. You might have a simple USB mic, or it might be a fancy-pants XLR-mic going into a USB interface that has some controls of the audio, or it might be a fancy-pants XLR-mic going into a fancy-pants mixer with 238 controls.
